I will be installing a BlackMagic Intensity Pro card in my ivsEdits machine this week - I already have the card and I would like to see what it might add to my capabilities. Can anyone suggest what new potential an Intensity Pro card will add to my editing workstation?

Following Claude's directions, the Intensity card works very well and provides the "large screen" output needed.

Thanks, Claude!

Thanks, I'm looking at it.

Appreciate it.

Plus with two Intensity Pro cards,it appears that you can or soon will be able to get instantaneous In and out.

How interesting. I wonder if two cards could give you four in and ouit of audio, have to look at this.

Thanks

Roberto: I'll download that tonight and try it out, I'm at the office for a few hours, now - thank you.

Steven: I have the Intensity Pro which is down to under $200 now. It makes possible TV quality, full size/screen, monitoring of your video editing work to the capacity of your CPU. If your timeline gets too busy, too many effects, or hirez, you'll encounter CPU limitations. What I have right now is better than my Velocity. With Velocity, if you stack too many things up, you hit the wall and it won't play back at all till you render it. I can get more stuff playing live right now in SD than with my Velocity, and when it gets too busy, it will continue to play, but the quality will degrade - better than that screen of black you get with Velocity The Intensity Pro will allow you to capture editable digitized files from analog decks if you have need of that, as well. I haven't actually tried it with ivsEdits, but Roberto assures me it works - it works for Velocity, though you have to import the files after capture - you can't just put them on the timeline. With ivsEdits, you'll be able to capture and start editing immediately. The Intensity Pro is quite a bargain when you think about it.

claude,

I just released new version 1.2 ...please download it and check the difference.
The Timeline editing is still more faster and accurate.

Steven,

all cards are used only for I/O. All the capabilities in terms of effects are based only on the Host CPU. Anyway also without to use a BMD card we are using any DV IEEE 1394 port to get full frame SD Real Time output (with DV protocol limitations in terms of compression). Then you have to consider ivsEdits like a Reality/Quattrus/Altitude software emulator, with better Chroma-Key but without Warp effects. It is so also on a fast laptop.

That is great news Claude, Do you have teintensity or the intensity pro? Also the question is, what does the BM card do in conjunction with IVS edits? Is it just for monitoring, does it allow analog capture? Does having the card make a difference in the real time aspects of the program? If you are going in/out Firewire, or file based, does it matter if you have the intensity pro card - besides for monitoring? Does 1080i or 1080P make a difference if you do or don't have the Intensity card? Is it better to get two intensity cards or intensity pro cards instead of one extreme?

Thanks for sharing your experiences. Great as always.

Claude,

I ve been happy to read your nice post on DPSedits. Adding a BMD card, If you listen the audio like doubled please open ivsEdits preference and check "disable audio preview". It is a normal audio behavior of all BMD cards. They play the audio at same time cross the Windows driver and cross the Directshow SDK, but the last is a bit delayed.

I have succeeded in getting the Intensity Pro to output the video while I'm editing. There are a number of things that have to be properly connected, and settings that have to be correct - it was just a matter of getting them all correct. First, there are two HDMI connectors on the Intensity - you have to use the top one, closest to the big breakout D-Sub connector. In Vegas, you can only use the more recent drivers, and you must be in 32-bit mode - the 64-bit Vegas drivers can't see the Intensity Pro. In ivsEdits, it works perfectly. You have to go into the I/O menu, select Timeline Device Settings, and then select the Decklink option. This is working perfectly for me now. I've tried combining a graphic move on top of live video, with a dissolve and a PIP effect applied to the graphic - the graphic appears in the lower right of my video screen, slightly tilted inward, and dissolves in and out, and all that is happenning in real time - this is SD material I'm working with on Vista 64 machine with a Q9300 processor and 8GB or ram. For HD, I'm told you need an I7, which is on my wish list. The clarity and usefulness of having a big screen quality output of your work while editing is immeasurable. I'm seeing no scaling, no softness, no macroblocks, just clear video.

CVBS = Composite PAL/NTSC

DECKLINK EXTREME offers much better analog I/O . YUV component has a similar quality to Reality/Quattrus YUV Component. BMD CVBS is never comparable with legacy Harris HW like Reality and Quattrus (Altitude has a very limited analog Output).
yes DECKLINK extreme offers 2k Playback, 4:2:2 and 4:4:4 I/O, 8-10bit I/O, external key, RS422. Intensity is an acceptable board to get a Full-Frame output without to use OHCI 1394 Devices.

Hi, what is CVBS?

Also is the Black Magic Extreme a better card? - better quality, better features, etc.

Sorry, I'm straying a little off topic from what you posted Claude.

Hi Claude,
have you checked other Intensity Pro outputs (YUV or CVBS)?
(Just to understand if the Card is working properly)
Regards,

Paolo

I have installed my Intensity Pro card in the machine that I have ivsEdits on. I can't seem to get any video output to that screen. Can you think of something I might be missing? I see the driver seemingly properly installed in Device Manager - I've tried both HDMI ports on the card since one is an input and the other an output, but they are not marked; I tried opening Vegas to see if I could select the monitor connected to the HDMI port for preview, but I got nothing there, either. The HDMI and Intensity card were not offered as preview options in the preferences dialog. Now, I'm not sure what to try next.

yes, DVI-D and HDMI-D are both digital signals and they are very-very similar, it is required a cheap adapter to switch between them. BMD HDMI-A is not DVI compatible and requires an HDMI Monitor/TV. Anyway HDMI-A quality got from all current BMD devices is not excellent.

Thanks for the answer, Roberto, but I guess I'm confused. I thought HDMI was just DVI with some additional copy protection - isn't DVI a digital signal?

Intensity will offer to you the possibility to add to ivsEdits a simply analog CVBS, YUV and HDMI I/O . In Pal the analog quality is not suitable for main broadcasters but allows to get a full frame I/O without a big cost. (HDMI is analog only)
