I'm curious as to how the multi-cam capture will work in IVSedits. Will you be able to cue record for the cameras at the same time? Will you be able to name them the same according to scene? Also, how will you select which video source you use for "live" on a timeline? Thanks.

Alex

Hello Alex,
if you want to use our test configuration:

Chassis: Supermicro SC743TQ-865
Array: 8xSeagate Cheetah 15.5 or 15.6 SAS
MB: Supermicro X7DAL-E
CPUs: Dual Xeon E5420 Quad Core (2.5GHz)

About the RAID card to handle the drives, I'd suggest to not to use the PCI-E slot (and to reserve it to the capture device). I'd suggest one of the Supermicro UIO SAS cards like AOC-USASLP-S8iR, but as of today we didn't make any test on UIO cards.

Best Regards,

It sounds like the Deltacast will be the better solution. Will there be any use for the Deltacast "Key" cards with your software or only the capture/playback card?

This chat has been incredibly useful. Thanks for your time in responding. While our language barrier is a bit frustrating at times, I believe you're on the road to something really great.

Dont worry If you have not to edit or mix the same file with itself the things are more easy than you can believe.

Dual Quad Xeons
Win XP 32
3GB RAM
1 7200 SATA drive for the system
1 15Krpm RPM array

using Black Magic cards are required 3 or 4 boards because in capturing mode the output cant be used to see different video from input.
So the better solution for this task should be to use cards from Deltacast so only two boards are required. To Support Deltacast cards is already on our roadmap but I will not schedule it if ivsEdits will be not available first for Black Magic.

can you refresh to me how is structured your workflow?

OK, I'm officially really confused. I want to build one system that can capture two hi def inputs and then play those two hi def recordings out to two different monitors. What would a system need to look like in order to do that? Would it be something like this?

Dual Xeon
Windows XP
2 gigs ram
1 internal 15k rpm raid
1 10k rpm system drive
1 10k rpm audio drive
2 black magic cards

While you're at it, could you please provide specs on a system that could capture 4 hi-def cameras? How would someone set up storage for this? What types of capture cards do you recommend as you can't fit 4 black magic cards onto one motherboard?

I'm really curious to hear how storage would work for a configuration like this. Can you capture two hi-def sources onto a single raid?

Alex

In Italy all network are continuing to work in SD and they will continue to do it for many years so our customers intersting to this type of products are using 4, 8 or more SD cameras.
4 High Def cameras are a diffrent matter and we could easy set 2 HD SDI inputs for motherboard. So using 2 systems you can record 4 cameras on single array If the datarate for each input is approximatively under 400Mbits. 15Krpm drives are mandatory.

yes this feature is already reported the ivsEdits specifications published on www.ivsEdits.com, however we have already this type of software in our portfolio to play up to 255 synced video from 255 different PC synced with field precision using TCP/IP protocol. We created it for some national Museums to implement an amazing Stereoscopic view. Actual software is based on Sigma Design Cards but should be not difficult to port it on genlockable Black Magic cards.

While you are asking to control 2 cameras, the most part of our Italian customers control 4 and they would control upto 12 cameras.
With current approach we can handle infinite cameras (depending your systems capabilities).

OK, fair enough. Stability rules.

Alex,

Of course I know it is important but now to avoid bugs this feature is not yet supported. With one button approach there are too many eceptions to handle and I prefer the stability avoiding any unuseful risk.

Maybe I didn't make myself clear about the syncing of the recording. What I want is to be able to push record ONE time and have it record both camera's. I don't want to have to "jump" between instances of a program to push record twice. This is very important to me.

Hello Alex,

ivsEdits multi-cam capture is not a new feature because it is allowed by ivsEncoder Pro in the same way we are already offering this feature for VelocityQ and VelocityHD. Each camera is handled by different program instance and can be synced manually in Velocity or automatically in ivsEdits. Naturally, About the names you can set different names for each capture project because each camera file is stored in a own project folder.
The timeline live works approximatively as Velocity Golive but more different inputs can be assigned directly using the clip options.
